At AroundCampus Group, we offer a paid internship to jumpstart your career, right in your own college town! The internship begins with a week-long, expenses-paid training in Chapel Hill, NC with 600 college students just like you. You will spend the summer applying the knowledge you learned at training in your college market. Training: Your internship begins with an expenses-paid training at the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill at our nationally recognized Sales Foundations Academy (SFA). Training prepares you for the summer and beyond and you will learn topics including: Advertising and Marketing Theory, Advanced Selling Techniques, Professional Presentation Skills, Closing Skills, and much more.

Life on the Job: After Training, you will return to your college market. Every day you will meet with local business owners to develop an advertising campaign targeting the college community.

You and your team will begin each morning with a brief sales meeting to discuss strategy and set daily goals. From there, you will work independently or with your managers in your territory. Let’s take a look at some job duties:

  • Consult one-on-one with local and national businesses in your college market about their advertising platform
  • Sell and market advertising space in your campus publication, and the award-winning AroundCampus website and mobile app
  • Set up appointments and present your advertising solutions to countless local business executives
  • Manage a territory, prospect, build rapport, and close the sale
  • Enhance interpersonal communication, time-management , and confidence
  • Work as an individual and in a team environment
  • Work full-time, Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:30

Are there any requirements for the Sales & Marketing Internship?

Yes. We require individuals to meet the following basic requirements:

  • Housing
  • Reliable vehicle
  • Full-time availability Monday through Friday (8:30AM – 5:30PM) May - August (*Quarter students will have separate availability requirements, depending on their academic calendar.)
  • Great work-ethic

What will I be doing throughout the internship program?

After training, you will work the duration of the internship in your college market with your sales team.

Typical Day:
8:30AM-9:00AM: Team Meeting - The meeting will allow you and your team to get organized, discuss prospects, and set goals for the day.
9:00AM- 12:30PM: Sales Calls - You will make in-person visits to your clients, showing them how they can benefit by advertising to the college market through our platform.
12:30PM- 1:30PM: Lunch
1:30PM- 5:00PM: Sales Calls
5:00PM- 5:30PM: Team Meeting - Your day will conclude with an evening meeting to assess the day, celebrate your accomplishments, and plan for the next day.
Your day will end at approximately 5:30PM.

Training…What can I expect?


Our training program, the Sales Foundations Academy, is held on the beautiful campus of UNC-Chapel Hill. This is a nationally-recognized sales training program, in which we will bring you and 600 other interns to Chapel Hill, NC. Not only will you will get to network with individuals from all over the country, but we will teach you everything you need to know to be successful in our program.

  • Sales Foundations — Discover the driving principles of the AC sales process and learn the skills needed to succeed in the AC program.
  • Function of Advertising and Marketing — Understand the function and purpose of advertising methods and the role it plays in building a diversified marketing mix.
  • Time & Territory Management — Gain strategies for organizing and executing on the role of a sales representative.
  • Sales Presentation — Understand the fundamentals and approach toward delivering an effective value proposition while on a sales call.
  • Handling Objections — Understand and execute strategies for uncovering and addressing customer concerns.
  • Prospecting & Managing Renewals — Learn how to effectively generate new clients and service previous customers.
  • Goals & Standards — Discover the company’s daily recommended standards for success and develop a foundation towards meeting benchmarks in achieving your goals.
  • Career Expo:
    Don’t forget to bring your resume. At AC, we partner with some of the top companies  in the country! Our Career Partners will attend the Sales Foundations Academy for our Career Expo. Here, you will get the chance to network with recruiters and find out about opportunities they offer after the summer.

Where will I be staying during training?

You will be staying in Granville Towers student dormitories right on UNC’s campus.

When does training take place?

Training is in May. Check with your recruiter for exact dates.

What expenses will be covered in the training program?

  • Round-trip flight to Raleigh/Durham, NC and back to your home or college market. If you drive to/from training, we will reimburse your gas mileage.
  • Accommodations throughout the training program
  • Three scheduled meals per day
  • Training and marketing materials

What’s the dress code?

Training will be business professional during the day sessions. During the evening sessions, individuals can dress casual. Throughout the summer, you will dress business casual.

How long is the internship program?

The internship is a summer-long commitment ranging from 10-13 weeks, depending on the market you work in. Your recruiter will be able to confirm the duration for you.

How will I be compensated throughout the internship?

As a sales representative, you will earn a weekly payment every week you are working for the duration of the program. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to earn weekly commission based on sales made.

What is AC’s management structure?

You will be assisted by Regional, Area, and Territory Sales Managers throughout the summer.  We are in the field working with our representatives each day of the summer.  Your development is important to us, so you should expect ongoing coaching.  Additionally, each college town is different, so team size varies by market.

Where can I work?

We operate in over 200 college markets across the country. You will apply to work in one of these markets. You will need to have housing in the market and access to a reliable vehicle.

What happens after the internship is over?

After you complete the AroundCampus Group internship, we will help update your resume with all that you've accomplished. This experience will lead to many opportunities including part-time and full-time positions. The AroundCampus Group offers individuals who have completed our program more opportunities to advance skills in Account Management and Sales Management. We also have a Career Partner Program, in which top companies partner with us to hire our interns for internship and full-time opportunities.
